Exploring African American Male Household Heads in the Copeland Community

Over the years, the role of the African American adult male as a provider and protector has remained constant. However, African American families are experiencing a rise in fatherlessness and a weakening of the traditional African American household structure. Due to moral challenges within the African American community, the perception of the African American male adult as the household head is evolving.
Dr. Jim H. Copeland Jr. introduces the first book in a series shedding light on the perspectives of African American males who are not currently heads of households. Drawing from his extensive background as a behavioral psychologist with over fifteen years of counseling experience, Dr. Copeland's journey began during his time in the military, where he served as a commanding officer. This unique experience paved the way for his later achievement of a doctorate in psychology. Through his military service, Dr. Copeland gained firsthand insight into the struggles men encounter when dealing with significant relationship challenges.
